The Wexford Carol is a traditional Irish Christmas song also known as “Good People All This Christmas Time.” Though its origins are unclear, it was likely composed during the 15th or 16th century. It wasn’t until 1859 that William Flood, an organist and musical director at St. Aidan’s Cathedral in Enniscorthy, made the first transcription of the music from a local singer and published it in The Oxford Book of Carols. The song tells the story of the Nativity. This arrangement is scored for voice and string quartet. Tenor and bass viols can be substituted for the viola and cello.Â
