These three songs from Dowland’s last book A Pilgrims Solace (1612) are originally for voice with obbligato lute, treble & bass viol, a quite different format to his more usual polyphonic style of airs. They are not often played, and this arrangement for voice with treble, two tenors & a bass viol make these unusually fine compositions available to a standard viol consort, the two tenor viols replacing the lute.
